What, How, Why We Charge

Labor Charges:

We are a "self-supporting recharge unit". We charge for the work we perform. The current labor rate is $46 per hour. The Psychology Department generously provides a 50% subsidy for individuals and laboratories affiliated with the department. The money we make pays for equipment acquisition, equipment maintenance, and some staff salaries.

Material Surcharge:

Parts and material acquired here are charged at our total cost (base price, tax, shipping) plus a 15% surcharge. The surcharge is added to recover expense or ordering, shrinkage, storage maintenance, and inventory.

Fixed Charge Services:

Many of our media services are a priced at at fixed cost per unit. This charge is inclusive of labor, material, amortization of equipment cost, and maintenance.

Rush Surcharge:

Our media services are subject to a 50% surcharge if less than the 48 hour turnaround is required. This is necessary because scheduled projects are delayed when we "drop everything" to accomodate unplanned work.
