Welcome to Psych IT
Psych IT is the Information Technology unit that serves members of the Psychology department. We work in close collaboration with other campus IT units to provide integrated information technology services. Department members who need computer support may submit a help desk request here.
Some of our computing resources follow:
There are 5 undergraduate computer labs and 1 graduate computer lab available for instructional and student use in Franz Hall. There are over 120 computers and 6 high capacity printers, as well as a document scanner available in these the labs. Microsoft Office, SPSS, SAS, and Matlab are some of the software packages that may be used.
The department has laptop computers, data projectors, microphones, speakers, digital cameras available for check out and temporary use in the building. These items are typically borrowed for short term (one day) periods for specific presentations, lectures, etc.
Support for Desktop computers and printers
Desktop computers and printers are provided for most staff and faculty members, and they are maintained and supported by Psych IT. Microsoft Office is available for all departmentally owned computers.
The departmental website (www.psych.ucla.edu) is a resource for internal and external clients to get information about various aspects of the Department of Psychology. We also provide a staff intranet (staff.psych.ucla.edu) available only for Psychology faculty and staff members. Additionally, faculty members may have their own personal or lab web sites hosted jointly by Psychology and Life Sciences. Finally, instructional course websites are created for all non-tutorial, undergraduate courses and are available to currently enrolled students. Graduate course websites may be created at the instructor’s request.
Networking, Data Storage, Email
Most users have 2 network connections near their desks with 1 GB transfer speeds. Our network is firewalled, monitored, and can be accessed via VPN. File storage can be provided for large data sets as well as typical single-user or shared-user files. New faculty and staff members are provided with Microsoft Exchange email accounts on the campus Enterprise Messaging system. Those accounts are provisioned and supported by local Psych IT staff.
The IT Unit is staffed most normal business days between 8:00am and 5:00pm.

Manages staff, resources, and projects. Liaison to other campus computing and staff groups.
Coordinates computer lab use and provides support for EScholarship, CCLE/Moodle, Mailman, and other campus standard applications.
Takes care of all computers, printers, cameras, software, and other devices inside the computer labs.
Manages our Plone websites and trains others on how to update and manage content.
Manages the help desk operation and oversees completion of help desk requests.
Resolves help desk requests and provides back up to individuals in the IT Unit.
Life Sciences Computing (LSC):
The Life Sciences Computing staff is responsible for networking in Franz Hall. We work closely with them to add, change or troubleshoot connectivity issues in the building.
