Information about Printing Policies for the Franz Computer Labs including common questions and answers

Printing in the Franz computer Labs

The Psychology Computing labs will begin to offer 20 pages of free printing to all eligible users beginning Winter quarter 2012. Beginning Spring quarter 2012, eligible users will be have 10 pages of free printing available. And beginning in Summer Session 2012, the Psychology Computing Labs will no longer offer free printing.

Printing in the computer labs is charged at the time of request by swiping the user's Bruincard. All users wanting to purchase print vouchers must have money on their Bruincard. Users needing to print in the labs may request as many print vouchers ($1 for every 20 pages) as they want, however they do expire at the end of the each quarter.  Vouchers may be requested at any time (you don't have to wait until your balance reaches zero). All pages using your login account are counted in a declining balance, so you can always check your current balance to see how many pages you have left to print.

Some important points to note:

  • Every piece of paper that comes out with your print job is counted, regardless of the amount of print on it.  If the sheet of paper is blank, or has one character on it, it still counts as a sheet.

  • Also be aware that we count all of your printouts, even if you do not come pick them up. We recycle abandoned printouts every day at closing time.
  • You are responsible for your own print usage and knowing what the printing policies are.
  • Additional non-refundable print vouchers may be purchased. Your account balance is reset to zero at the end of each quarter, regardless of whether you used all pages per voucher or not.
  • Please make sure that you have available funds on your Bruincard to cover the cost of the print voucher(s) you want to purchase.

Common Questions & Answers

Why do I have to buy additional printing in increments of 20?
Since the per page cost is less than that charged at other campus labs (.5 per page versus .10 per page) we believe this will be the most cost effective way to recover printing costs.

I am sure I did not print that much!
You may not have logged out entirely. If you walk away from your workstation without properly logging out, someone may then have used the workstation using your logon. Do not share your account with anyone. Remember to wait for your printout and ask a lab proctor if it does not print out.

I never received my printouts or they took too long to print, so I just left.
Even though you did not pick your pages up, they still ultimately printed and we count those pages. If you decide that you do not want to wait for something that you sent to print, you must ask the lab proctor to delete the print job from the queue or it will still print, even if you log off. Make sure you check with a lab proctor if you observe some error or need help managing your print jobs.

What happens if I don't actually use all the pages I've requested?
The voucher allowances expire every quarter. Your account balance is reset to zero at the start of the every new quarter. The balance of unused pages is not carried over to the next quarter, nor is it refundable.
