Research and Teaching Interests
The nature and development of early cognitive development,
especially concepts of numbers, causality, science and
artifacts. The relation of universal, domain-specific
initial knowledge structures to subsequent conceptual
learning and understandings (or misunderstandings) of
mathematical and scientific theories within and across
cultures or within or outside school settings. The
characterization and use of motion and information about
causes that is used to classify and/or learn about the
differences between animals, machines, and other inanimate
objects. The different kinds of models and conceptual change
that apply both within levels of a domain and across
different domains and the consequent different demands on
learning.
