Applied Developmental Psychology Minor
ADP Applications for the 2012-2013 Academic Year will be due May 3rd , 2012.
The ADP Minor is a unique program that creates the opportunity for students at the undergraduate level to learn about the development of infants and children. The design of this minor is to provide a coherent academic program that focuses on issues central to improving the well-being of children and their families. This program specifically teaches students how to apply theories, research methods, and research findings to practical concerns. It prepares students to receive further training in various child-related professions, including the field of child care.
In this program, students will learn about the realities, styles, and needs of today's families and child care programs. In addition to coursework, students who participate in the minor also are required to enroll in an internship course.
Psychology 134A and 134B are lecture and discussion courses in which students must enroll concurrently while participating in the internship. Also required, Psychology 134D, 134E, 134C are courses developed to provide students with the experience of working in a child care setting.
These courses focus on concepts, issues, and research in applied developmental psychology and are related to the students' on-going field experience. By participating first-hand in child care centers throughout the community, students gain a better understanding of the knowledge they learn inside the classroom. With such experiences, students are able to enhance their educational experience and provide service to the community.
