Title: Academic Coordinator I (50% time)
Working title: Cognitive Science Major Coordinator

Under the direction of the Department Chair, Vice Chair for Undergraduate Studies, and Chair of the Cognitive Science Major Committee of the UCLA Department of Psychology, the Cognitive Science Major Coordinator will assume responsibility for analyzing and overseeing the interdisciplinary cognitive science major and minor curricula, requirements, and course offerings within Psychology and across other departments within the University and at other University programs. Duties include planning, evaluating and developing the curriculum; researching and implementing innovative teaching methods and pedagogy; cultivating a partnership with faculty in order to integrate their input in program; reviewing and assessing fieldwork and research placements; directing and implementing an end-of-year student research conference; and serving as mentor and teaching resource for cognitive science instructors.

The position: The Academic Coordinator I duties include:

• managing the Cognitive Science major internship program, including reviewing sites, site supervision, and student placements
• evaluating and revising the Cognitive Science major and minor course requirements and prerequisites based on systematic consultation with other campus units
• communicating with campus units on an ongoing basis to ensure alignment between our Cognitive Science major, our Department’s two other majors, and relevant offerings in those units
• recommending and facilitating improvements in current courses and the development of new courses to enhance the major and providing support to update courses as needed
• participating as a key member of the Cognitive Science Major committee.
• promoting diversity in the major

Qualifications: Must have a professional background of academic training and/or experience. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in psychology or other cognitive-science-related field with minimum 3 years of teaching experience at the University level as well as experience in teaching cognitive science and computer programming courses. The individual must effectively interact and lead within programs and activities involving faculty, staff, and students. The candidate must be flexible and pay attention to detail while keeping in mind the overall mission of the Department, Division of Life Sciences, College and University.

See Table 35 for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $52,409 -$78,342.

This is a 9-month, academic year appointment.
