The Wikenheiser laboratory (https://wikenheiserlab.psych.ucla.edu/) at the University of California, Los Angeles is seeking candidates for a postdoctoral fellow position. Our group studies how neural representations support behaviors and cognitive processes such as learning, memory, and decision making. Primary techniques in the lab include single-unit recording in freely-behaving rats, optogenetics, and computational analysis/modelling. We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow to work on an existing project in the lab related to these topics, or to help develop a novel project within the domain and interests of the lab.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. in neuroscience or a related discipline, and experience studying complex behaviors in rats. Candidates with broad interests (cognitive science, ethology, economics, computer science, neuroscience, etc.) and a diverse repertoire of technical skills are particularly encouraged to apply. Experience with electrophysiology, optogenetics, and/or computational data analysis is desirable, but not required.
The position is fully funded for two years, and may be extended depending on satisfactory progress and the availability of funding. Applications are welcome beginning Wednesday, May 15th, and the position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found, or until July 1, 2019.
Our lab is committed to improving diversity in science and creating a supportive, collaborative environment where trainees can gain the experience they need to be successful in their chosen career path. Members of groups under-represented in science are especially encouraged to apply. The University of California is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age or protected veteran status.
