Description of Organization and Population Served:
For over 20 years, the Child Development Institute (CDI) has served as one of the principle providers of relationship-based early intervention and therapeutic services to children and their families. CDI focuses on the development of the whole child, including his or her early relationships, environments and communities. Created by CDI, the Early Learning Center (ELC) is a museum-quality, developmentally-appropriate play and learning space in Canoga Park that promotes healthy development for all young children from birth to six years old and provides connection to community resources and opportunities to strengthen families. With a focus on nature and the benefits of nature in children’s healthy development, the ELC offers activities and special events that support children’s social-emotional development. Volunteers and Interns facilitate school-readiness skills through literacy, art, science, music, gardening, health and wellness activities. CDI also provides free developmental screenings to address parent concerns and get families connected with community resources.
