Research and Teaching Interests

My research interests are in visual perception, particularly
color vision, spatial pattern vision, and perceptual
decision making.

Winter 2009 Fiat Lux Seminar:  Psychology 19
See the Colors:  Glimpses of What We See and How We See Them. Color provides aesthetic enrichment and a wealth of information about our environment; and our scientific knowledge of color provides a template that guides the study of many other types of perception.  We will explore some of the things we know about color perception and some of the things we do not know.  We will read and discuss papers, some historical classics and some recent, that address such questions as the nature of color, how the eyes and brain capture color information and represent it, how hundreds of colors can be coded by just three kinds of receptors, and how context makes our color perception more object oriented (i.e. color constancy).
