Postdoctoral Scholars in Psychology

Message from the Psychology Department Chair

Postdoctoral scholars are at a pivotal stage of their training, transitioning from earning the PhD while developing the skills and accomplishments that will advance them into the next phase of their careers. In the UCLA Department of Psychology, we are fortunate to have a large group of 20-30 postdoctoral scholars in any given year, all making essential contributions to their respective labs and to the intellectual life of our department more generally. Postdoctoral scholars serve not only as mentored researchers but are themselves mentors to their junior colleagues, while making valuable contributions as instructors and as members of the communities in which our faculty conduct research. In these roles, our postdoctoral scholars expand and enrich the intellectual and personal diversity of our scholarly community. Here in the Psychology Department we have launched several initiatives to enhance the experience of our postdocs and to advance their professional development, all designed to create a wonderful, formative, and memorable period in our postdocs’ careers.
