Description of Organization and Population Served:
Neuroscience Associates Inc. is a group Clinical Neuropsychology practice located in Encino (about 15-20 minutes from UCLA) and founded by Dr. Jeffrey Schaeffer in 1980. Dr. Schaeffer is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences in the Geffen UCLA School of Medicine. Neuroscience Associates Inc. offers a range of services, including neuropsychological and psychodiagnostic assessment. Our practice consists of a number of associates trained in both clinical neuropsychology as well as general clinical psychology. Neuropsychological assessment focuses on understanding the adverse effects of brain injury and diseases of the central nervous system upon cognitive, intellectual, emotional and behavioral capacities and functions. Psychodiagnostic assessment focuses on understanding an individual's personality, emotional functioning, and thought processes. Both assessment methodologies rely upon the use of psychometric measures to evaluate the patient as well as clinical interview, behavioral observations, and review of medical records and other background information. The cases seen in our practice are typically individuals (primarily adults; some children and adolescents) who have sustained a brain injury or who have a known or suspected neurological disorder. These individuals have either been referred by their treating doctors to assist with differential diagnosis or guide treatment, or by an attorney who requires expert witness testimony or consultation as part of a civil (or other type of) litigation case.
