Description of Organization and Population Served:
codeConnects is an initiative developed by The Coding School, a tech education nonprofit dedicated to ensuring computer science education is accessible and empowering for all students regardless of background or geographic location. The Coding School has taught over 70,000 hours of code to K - 12 students in 125 countries. We believe coding education is the key to social mobility, and that's why we're dedicated to developing a diverse set of programs to ensure underrepresented students - including females, students of color, low SES students, students with learning disabilities and those from rural communities - are empowered through code.
Description of Fieldwork Project and Responsibilities of Intern:
codeConnects can offer excellent experience-gaining opportunities in both the tech education and nonprofit space. An intern working with us has the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in their specific area of focus and also gain overall knowledge of the inner workings of a nonprofit organization. We have intern positions with codeConnects in a range of areas including UI/UX design, web development (front & back end), curriculum development, video production, general tech or business development focus. We encourage you to reach out and share with us what are you are interested in.
Special Qualifications:
We look for interns who are driven to learn and grow in their specialty. We have a collaborative team who will help guide and support our interns; however, interns who will thrive working with codeConnects are self-starters who are willing to initiate ideas and take the steps to give them a try.
Hourly Commitment Per Week: 7-10
How does this relate to Cognitive Science?:
Understanding how people think and act upon those thoughts is at the forefront of all successful work - whether that work is grant writing, web design, writing press releases, developing corporate sponsorship outreach campaigns, and just about all you can think of. We're exciting for the insight that UCLA's Cognitive Science majors can bring to codeConnects and The Coding School.
