The UCLA Goldberg Migraine Program is one of the largest academic migraine programs in the world. We do basic and clinical research, and provide comprehensive care for migraine and other headache disorders. We serve a broad population of patients, and we do basic research that informs patient care.
Description of Fieldwork Project and Responsibilities of Intern
The intern will do basic laboratory research investigating physiological and behavioral parameters associated with migraine, pain, and sleep disorders. They will also be involved in translating results into clinical practice, and will be involved in the development of clinical studies that can facilitate this translation. Analysis of data will include deep learning and quantum computing approaches that are being developed in our laboratory and clinic.
Special Qualifications
The project requires acquisition and analysis of complex time series data of physiology (including brain blood flow) and behavior including movement, exercise, sleep, and the response to common pharmacologic agents including caffeine and analgesics.

Description of Organization and Population Served
End Overdose is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to ending drug overdose through education, medical intervention, and public awareness. The organization trains individuals and people within organizations on overdose prevention and response, including the distribution and administration of naloxone and use of fentanyl test strips.
End Overdose is based in Los Angeles but conducts outreach across the country through our website EndOverdose.net and in person at middle/high schools, music festivals, community events, health fairs, colleges/universities, treatment/recovery facilities, and more. In 2024, End Overdose trained 230,930 people ranging from individuals under 15 years old to individuals over 65 years old in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and Guam. Our main population reached through trainings and awareness campaigns are individuals aged 18 to 35.
Description of Fieldwork Project and Responsibilities of Intern
The End Overdose Nonprofit Development Intern (Unpaid) Program provides opportunities for students interested in learning more about nonprofit operations, specifically in the field of overdose prevention and response. The program will cover all aspects of nonprofit operations including education development, resource distribution coordination, public awareness campaign development, and more!
Interns will be responsible for:
- Checking in weekly with their internship supervisor and attending additional meetings pertaining to internship activities.
- Maintaining an activities tracker to document daily tasks and learning outcomes, providing data for personal reflection and program evaluation.
- Synthesizing internship experiences into a presentation highlighting connections between internship fieldwork and enrolled educational program coursework.
- Assist with internship activities including, but not limited to: outreach population research, outreach program research and analysis, educational program development, resource distribution coordination, and partnership development.
Throughout the course of the End Overdose Unpaid Nonprofit Development Internship, interns will:
- Develop a deep understanding of the logistical and operational challenges and solutions specific to nonprofit operations, particularly those related to overdose prevention and response.
- Cultivate and showcase skills in all areas of nonprofit development including program development, supply coordination, volunteers, and events.
- Improve public speaking and communication skills through regular interactions with internship supervisors, volunteers, and organization partners.

The intern will contribute to projects that expand and strengthen Rockin’ Your Sober Life’s digital presence and community outreach. This includes researching and posting relevant sober-inclusive events to the website, exploring and implementing event management plugins in WordPress, and assisting with digital campaigns such as Sober Rocktober. The intern will also gain hands-on experience with e-commerce by supporting the setup and management of RYSL’s online store.
