Integrated Technology in Classrooms

Date published: 4/22/2016

This academic year we have made technical upgrades in some classrooms which can make it easier to incorporate technology into lectures and discussions. Specifically, rooms A279, 3290 and 3534 now have AV Control Center panels installed. The panels neatly tie together computers and other digital inputs with data projectors or large TV screens. With these installations we’ve had far fewer issues with cables or adapters failing or being lost, computers not displaying correctly, or displays being accidentally left on and prematurely run down.

Email issues - and workaround

Date published: 3/17/2016

As of Thursday, March 17, 2016, we have had reports of some users not being able to send or receive certain email today.   A common theme seems to be with attachments.  Mail from outside of EM with attachments is not being received, and documents sent from our scanners do not always go through as expected.   Life Sciences is looking into this now and they know this is an urgent problem for us.  We hope to have an update by the end of the day.

As a workaround, files can be shared with outside users through UCLA Box.

Student’s performance on tests and homework assignments don’t always capture what they have learned during schooling. In fact, students commonly report “choking under pressure” or performing below their actual ability. I am interested in investigating STEM learning of students at various stages in schooling and the emotional factors that prevent them from performing at a high level.
