Recent Undergraduate Award Winners
Gloria Kim, a research assistant under Prof. Lauren Ng, has won the Dean’s Prize for Excellence in Research and Creativity. Christabelle Junaidi and Parsa Mokhtar, both 3rd year Psychobiology students, were selected to receive the prestigious Whitcome Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship for biological or biochemical research in Summer 2022.
Prof. Weiner Receives Distinguished Contribution to Motivation Science Award
Congratulations to Distinguished Research Professor Bernie Weiner for receiving the 2022 Distinguished Contribution to Motivation Science Award from the Society for the Science of Motivation. The award is given to a senior scientist who has made a major theoretical and/or empirical contribution to motivation science.
Prof. Greenfield Receives Career Commitment to Diversity DEI Award

Distinguished Research Professor Robert Bjork Elected to National Academy of Sciences
Congratulations to Distinguished Research Professor Robert Bjork for being elected to the National Academy of Sciences. Established by an Act of Congress and signed by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863, the Academy is charged with providing advice to the nation on matters related to science and technology. Prof. Karney Receives 2022 Berscheid-Hatfield Award for Distinguished Mid-Career Achievement
Congratulations to Professor Ben Karney on being awarded the 2022 Berscheid-Hatfield Award for Distinguished Mid-Career Achievement from the International Association for Relationship Research. This award honors the distinguished scientific achievements of scholars who are in the middle stages of their careers, that is, between 10 and 25 years post-Ph.D.
Two Professors Receive Awards from Society for Health Psychology
Congratulations to Assistant Professor Jennifer Sumner and Distinguished Professor Chris Dunkel Schetter who will receive awards from the Society for Health Psychology (APA Division 38). Prof. Sumner will receive the Excellence in Health Psychology Research by an Early Career Professional Award, and Prof. Dunkel Schetter will receive the Excellence in Mentoring Award. The awards will be conferred at the annual conference in Minneapolis this summer.
Prof. Alan Castel to Receive Distinguished Teaching Award for Senate Faculty
Congratulations to Professor Alan Castel who will receive the Distinguished Teaching Award for Senate Faculty. Alan was selected by the Academic Senate Committee on Teaching as one of only six awardees from a large field of nominees. His extraordinary accomplishments as a teacher both within UCLA and in the community are enhanced by his research on life-long learning.
